Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The primary assignment of the Laboratory Technician is to support the Department of Engineering Technology's AAS and BS degree program offerings at the Fort Campbell and Clarksville campuses. This includes maintaining facilities, equipment, and inventory for the Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechanical, and Mechatronics concentration areas. The Laboratory Technician will be directed by the Chair of Engineering Technology for duties in a particular laboratory area.

This is a temporary assignment no longer than twelve months.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Set up and maintain electronics laboratories. Work with faculty to select, order, and integrate new equipment into instruction. Work with faculty to select, order, track, and maintain inventory of electronics components and supplies. Repair or arrange for repair of equipment in the labs for the AAS / BS in ET concentrations, as needed.
- Support the faculty by setting up labs for electrical, manufacturing, mechatronics, and mechanical (as applicable) classes; assist students in laboratories with selecting components and equipment; and give other aid as needed.
- Install and support software required for instruction in the department courses including AUTOCAD, CREO, Multisim and other software. Coordinate and arrange for assistance from the Office of Information Technology when needed.
-Support and maintain equipment for the four concentration area laboratories in the two campuses.
- Perform general lab upkeep; assist with annual equipment inventory checks; arrange for assistance from the physical plant staff when needed.
- Work with the Department Chair in the recruitment and supervision of student workers with regards to the effective management of the daily operations of the labs in the two campuses.
- Coordinate with student workers and manage the scheduling of personnel for the simulcast course offerings between the Clarksville and Fort Campbell campuses, that includes the evenings (4:45 – 10 pm)
- Assist with department activities and recruiting events on the Clarksville and Fort Campbell campuses; transport, set up and bring back equipment taken temporarily to campus for classes and recruiting events. -
Assist with other departments labs and perform other duties as assigned by the department chair.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- General knowledge of university purchase and inventory control policies and procedures.
-General knowledge of electronics components and test equipment; manufacturing and mechatronics related lab equipment; ability to understand and follow instructions for loading software and managing site licenses.
-Ability to set up electronics equipment; prepare materials and equipment for the Robot classes.
-Ability to act on verbal instructions to prepare labs for classes, order supplies, etc.
-Ability to make accurate mathematical computations as related to inventory and repair techniques.
-Ability to inspect facilities.
-Ability to perform daily check of equipment and make minor repairs on equipment.
-Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
-Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
-Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
-Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Physical Requirements

- Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Required Minimum Qualifications

- Associates degree in Engineering Technology.
-Ability to install software and manage site licenses for engineering software packages.
-General knowledge of electronics components and test equipment, Robotic and Automation equipment.
-Basic mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing lab skills.
-A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
