Essential Job Functions –MOTOR GRADER (BLADE)
- Operates equipment generally on uneven surfaces to maintain haul roads and assist in building new roads.
- Drives blade and moves levers to regulate height and angle of blade, lower scarifier that loosens packed soil to permit grading, and to tilt front wheels of grader when making sharp turns.
- Drives blade in successive passes over working areas usually observing reference stakes to level surface to specified grade.
- Feels levers and sound of engine to determine depth of cut.
- Operates equipment safely both forward and reverse directions in close quarters with other heavy equipment.
- May perform fine or rough grading.
- Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on equipment.
Essential Job Functions –DOZER
- Fastens attachments to tractor with clevis or wedge pin hitches.
- Connects hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to tractor to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachment.
- Moves levers to control tool bars, carriers, and disks.
- Moves levers and depresses pedals to maneuver tractor and raise, lower, and tilt attachment to clear right-of-way.
- Feels lever and listens for stalling action of engine to estimate depth of cut.
- Operates bulldozer in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower terrain to specified grade following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.
- Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on tractor.
Essential Job Functions - FORKLIFT
- Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus.
- Positions forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials or hooks tow trucks to trailer hitch, and transports load to designated area.
- Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device.
- Inventories materials on work floor, and supply workers with materials as needed.
- Weighs materials or products and records weight on tags, labels, or production schedules.
- Loads or unloads materials onto or off of pallets, skids, or lifting device.
- Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos. For Dozer operators-the ability to read grade stakes. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
