Description
Works with the Director of Family Giving and the Executive Director of the Dartmouth College Fund to establish annual Parents Fund goals and program activities to ensure overall success of Dartmouth's fundraising efforts. Promotes philanthropy based on a thorough understanding of the student and family experience at Dartmouth through relationships with the Dean of College and other offices on campus. Supports an integrated development organization by collaborating with development departments—especially Principal Giving, Leadership Giving, Gift Planning, and the Dartmouth College Fund—as well as with academic and administrative offices. Incorporates the needs of diverse internal and external constituencies in program planning. Develops strategies for working with diverse family constituencies including but not limited to legacy families and extended family member (grandparents and others). Monitors progress against goals and implements strategies to ensure success in meeting goals. Keeps development management informed on the status/progress of fund-raising activities. Develops networks with colleagues at other Ivy League schools and other peer institutions to keep current with best practices and emerging trends in parents and grandparents annual giving. Collects and analyzes data for the Parents Fund relative to its fundraising performance, volunteer activity, group dynamics and other institutional interests.

Develops and implements comprehensive cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for approximately 50 households. Works both independently and in concert with senior officers, Trustees, other colleagues, and volunteers to implement strategies including direct solicitation of gifts. Qualifies identified prospective donors through individual visits, advises research department of potential new prospects and assumes specific responsibility for prospect activity in assigned region. Reviews and analyzes the currently identified prospect pool to assess accuracy of research and amends and expands profiles as appropriate. Coordinates with internal colleagues to promote maximum involvement with and giving to the Dartmouth Parents and Grandparents Fund. Works with colleagues in the Dartmouth College Fund, Gift Planning, Presidential Initiatives & Principal Gifts ( PIPG), and in the three professional schools to develop strategies for individual donors. Devises individualized involvement/engagement strategies for all benefactors using a “top-down” approach to maximize philanthropy for Dartmouth. Schedules appointments and oversees the preparation of necessary materials, including funding proposals, briefings for senior officers and Trustees and scheduled stewardship reports, for all assigned prospects utilizing campus resources. Identifies donors to participate in on-campus and regional events, committees or other programs that strengthen institutional ties and relationships. Ensures stewardship is provided to donors on existing endowment and current-use funds. Responds quickly and effectively to strategic opportunities for increased prospect engagement. Travels as necessary to visit with prospects, often in tandem with senior officers of the college.

Manages Family Leadership and Fundraising Committee, which is charged with increasing unrestricted annual support from Dartmouth families. Collaborates with Committee Leadership to grow/adapt Committee to align with institutional goals and volunteer interests. Coordinates volunteer meetings and volunteer solicitation/outreach activity. Ensures that leadership volunteers are equipped with the training and information they need to carry out their responsibilities and are given appropriate recognition for their contributions to the growth of the Parents Fund.

Working with the Family Giving and Engagement team, and the Donor Engagement, collaborates in the planning, invitation process and execution of special events and receptions for top parent prospects with high-level institutional representatives.

Collaborates with Office of Family Giving team and Communications team to devise a comprehensive marketing and communications plan for family engagement annually. Advises on design and implementation of a comprehensive marketing program to convey the case for support of the Parents Fund through a combination of direct mail, advertising and printed and electronic materials. As an internal client of the Dartmouth College Fund, works with the Executive Director of the DCF to leverage direct mail, email, and text capabilities of DCF operations, including segmentation of the prospect database to ensure maximum results. Coordinates with DCF Managing Directors to leverage class mail and other forms of class-specific communications to strengthen legacy parent relationship. Develops grandparents/family members' communications and solicitation strategy.

- Bachelor's degree with preference for volunteer experience at an alma mater.
- Four years of fund-raising, sales, or marketing experience; or the equivalent. An appreciation for the values of a liberal arts education
- Volunteer management experience, preferably in an educational setting
- Evidence of successful solicitations at five-figure levels or higher
- Strong interpersonal skills and direct solicitation experience
- Ability to work with and command the respect of a volunteer cadre, staff, senior officers of the College, Trustees, and other high-level individuals
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Creativity and openness to new ideas; the ability to initiate new programs, perform research and motivate both staff and volunteers
- Management skills, particularly related to the operational aspects of an annual giving program and leadership volunteers
- Demonstrated creative planning, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Tolerance for ambiguity
- Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community
