Job Type: Exempt, Part-time (20 hours a week). Hybrid (As some on-site work is required)

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer

Direct Report(s): None

Job Overview: The Accounting Manager is responsible for completing the monthly close, preparing financial reports, and accounts payable.

Successful candidates have a proven track record of responsibilities that require organization, initiative, attention to detail, and technical proficiency. Candidates will work independently and as a team member on accounting tasks and meet established deadlines. The ability to anticipate and troubleshoot problems, propose solutions, and engage colleagues and stakeholders effectively is essential while modeling our core values: honor, amplify, and be scrappy.

Key Responsibilities:

Monthly Close

    • Reconcile monthly donation data for entry into the accounting system.
    • Complete monthly journal entries for grant awards, liabilities, pledge payments, investment activities, etc.

Financial Reports

    • Prepare monthly budget to actual reports
    • Update chapter plans with monthly results
    • Maintain grants awarded report
    • Prepare quarterly chapter board member give/get reports
    • Input annual national and chapter budgets into QuickBooks

Accounts Payable

    • Prepare documentation for bi-weekly and as-needed check runs

Audit/Compliance

    • Work with the CFO/COO and CAO assisting auditors in gathering and providing information and documentation needed for a successful audit.
    • Manage state solicitation registrations to ensure compliance.

Grants Program Finance

    • Restricted Grant Funding fulfillment and tracking.
    • Grant data reporting and analysis for funding opportunities.

  • Basic familiarity with GAAP and FASB accounting standards.
  • Proficient with or able to quickly learn the accounting software used by the organization.
  • Work effectively with staff in a team-oriented environment with a positive attitude.

  • Ability to travel occasionally for a local day trip.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in an Accounting or Finance role.
  • High proficiency in QuickBooks or other accounting systems, Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and other Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.

The ideal candidate for this position would have experience working in a donor-funded non-profit organization using a non-profit accounting system. The ability to serve as an ad-hoc IT and technical support resource for staff in addition to all other duties described will elevate a candidate above others.
