Mechanic
NATURE OF POSITION
Mason Transit is recruiting for a highly skilled Journey Level Mechanic to join the Maintenance team. Under the direction of the Lead Mechanic, the Mechanic will demonstrate knowledge of all mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems. This position is required to diagnose and repair diesel, gas and alternative -powered vehicles; maintain consistent safety practices; perform preventive maintenance and routine service of all MTA owned vehicles and equipment in accordance with established Agency standards. Keeps knowledge relevant by acquiring and maintaining Master Transit Bus Technician ASE Certification.=

- Service Mechanic Salary Range - $27.56 - $ 30.63 per hour, Non-Exempt subject to FLSA requirements.
- Mechanic Salary Range - $31.77 - $35.30 per hour, Non-Exempt subject to FLSA requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Perform all preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, evaluation and mechanical repairs as required on all Agency owned or service-contracted vehicles.
- Assist with parts ordering, processing invoices and maintaining inventory as necessary to accomplish the assigned tasks.
- Diagnose, maintain and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, PLC, hydraulic and diesel systems.
- Minor welding using gas or electrical methods.
- Maintain diagnostic tools and software updates.
- Complete maintenance forms and paperwork appropriately and accurately.
- Coordinate with dispatch and drivers ensuring vehicle safety and readiness as needed.
- Maintain documentation and files as required on all Agency vehicles and equipment.
- Possess knowledge of the maintenance software program to ensure prompt preventative maintenance practices.
- Conduct road tests to ensure MTA vehicles are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Perform emergency roadside repairs.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
- Contribute to the goals and objectives of the Maintenance Team, to include formulation and implementation of operational policies, procedures, and controls to ensure safe and efficient operational activities and adherence to established service, budgetary and customer satisfaction standards.
- Recommend changes as warranted.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for Mechanic level classification:
Candidates must meet the following:
- Possess ASE Master Certification in either Auto, Truck, School Bus or Transit.
- Ability to obtain Transit Master Certification within 6 months of hire.
- Three (3) years of journey-level mechanical work experience in transit, bus, or over-the-road coach maintenance. Experience must include at least one year of heavy duty diesel mechanic work experience or alternative fueled spark ignited engines. OR
- Completion of a two (2) year diesel mechanic vocational course of study plus two (2) years journey-level mechanical work; OR
- Certification earned from the completion of a four (4) year diesel mechanic apprentice program.
- Possession of a set of hand tools and a roll away toolbox is required at the time of hire.
- Must be available to work a variety of schedules, including holidays, days, nights, and/or weekends.
