Assistant Teaching Professor

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The School of Music at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time, one-year Assistant Teaching Professor of Trombone position starting August 1, 2024. The ideal candidate is an accomplished artist-teacher with a collaborative mindset and a strong commitment to creative, inclusive teaching practices. An earned doctorate is preferred; a master's degree plus commensurate experience will be considered.

We seek an inspiring colleague who will help us view musical performance, teaching, and learning in diverse ways. We welcome applicants from the widest variety of pedagogical, educational, and musical backgrounds and styles. Current faculty and administration share an ethic of collegial responsibility and mutual care, so this new hire will receive solid mentoring, professional development, and support.

    This position requires the candidate to do advanced graduate teaching and solid, thoughtful undergraduate pedagogy. Instructional duties may include (but are not limited to) studio teaching for majors and non-majors, trombone choir, jazz coaching, repertoire class, brass pedagogy, brass methods, and/or other courses in the candidate's unique areas of expertise.
