Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College (UCBA) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Media Communications & Technology with a discipline emphasis on social media production and management.

UCBA Media Communications & Technology administers the Applied Media Communications Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and Professional Certificate as well as one-year certificates in Animation, Interactive Web Multimedia, and Media Criticism & Journalism.

The department offers courses in animation, audio, film/media history, graphic/motion design, multimedia/interactive production, video, and web design. Media Communications & Technology has several transfer articulation agreements allowing students who successfully complete our program to continue their education by transferring to the University of Cincinnati's Uptown campus for a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree at A&S, CCM or DAAP.

Essential Functions
  • Teach four interdisciplinary courses per semester, such as but not limited to Applied Media Methods, oriented to professionals as part of our Bachelor's in Applied Administration program. Courses will be taught in areas such as Media Design & Production, Social/Streaming Media Production & Management, and teaching technical skills in video, web, photo, graphics, audio, animation, etc.
  • Engaging in professional development activities such as training, education, and exercising your craft within the discipline.
  • Research/scholarship/creative activities such as but not limited to professional publication and exhibition.
  • Participating in department, college, and university service such as but not limited to committee work.
  • Participating in program assessment and review as well as other program development activities.
Minimum Requirements

Prior to the effective date of the appointment, the chosen candidate must have all of the following:
  1. Masters degree in media technologies or closely related field AND
  2. At least three years experience in professional management of social/streaming media production and processes as a member of a professional production team. This experience should include the following areas of activity during the specified time frame, all of which may, but need not, be earned contemporaneously:
    1. development of social media branding and marketing strategies (3 years)
    2. use of Adobe Creative Cloud and social media management tools (portfolio will be required) (3 years)
    3. use of design elements, principles and aesthetics (3 years)
    4. use of visual communication processes and procedures (3 years)
    5. use of visualization concepts and techniques (3 years)
  3. AND at least 3 academic years of college-level teaching (which could have been on a part-time basis) in media production or social media production and management.
The professional experience may, but need not, be contemporaneous with the academic teaching experience.
