Job Description
The University of Missouri-Columbia invites nominations and applications for the position of Instructor in the Division of Animal Sciences, an academic unit of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. We are seeking a qualified candidate to assist with the undergraduate teaching mission of the Division of Animal Sciences. This instructor position is a full-time, 9-month appointment with 100% teaching responsibilities. The selected candidate will serve as the primary instructor for AnSci 2115: Livestock Judging as well as team teach aspects of introductory animal science courses and/or other courses in their discipline area.
This person will coach the livestock judging team and coordinate departmental youth activities that involve live animal evaluation including state 4-H and FFA livestock judging contests. Other responsibilities will include undergraduate advising, visiting with prospective students, coordinating a livestock judging camp, and recruiting and representing the division with the public. This person will also serve as the supervisor of the Trowbridge Livestock Center.
The Division of Animal Sciences undergraduate program focuses on whole-animal biology, applying the latest in genetics, computational biology, physiology, nutrition and meat science to livestock production and animal management to improve both animal health and food production. Our faculty members are noted for teaching and mentoring excellence. Our division includes nearly 500 undergraduate students from all backgrounds and prioritizes experiential learning opportunities throughout the curriculum. Supporting facilities include the beef, dairy, swine, poultry, sheep, and equine farms minutes from campus.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
· M.S. in Animal Science or closely related field
Candidates will be evaluated on:
· Teaching experience at the university or college level, including as a graduate teaching assistant
· Participated on or coached an intercollegiate livestock judging team
· Expertise in livestock handling and production
· Experience in mentoring or advising undergraduates is preferred
