The Urban Teaching Apprenticeship Program at the University of Pennsylvania is recruiting a part-time lecturer to teach the course “EDUC 5557: Developmental Theories: Applications with Adolescents” for the summer 2024 term (July 8 - August 9, Mondays and Wednesdays 5:15-8:15pm). This course covers research on the biological, cognitive, social, and emotional development of adolescents and applications in educational settings. Topics covered include relationships, social identity development, adolescent social-emotional learning, and mental health. Special consideration is given to the ways these topics manifest in urban schools and relate to educational justice, culturally responsive pedagogy, and student-centered learning.

The Urban Teaching Apprenticeship Program is 10-month master's and certification program that develops members of a network of transformational educators advocating for educational justice in urban contexts. UTAP educators center the voices and agency of students and their communities, combining reflective practice with a deep understanding of content knowledge and culturally responsive pedagogy.

Qualifications
We seek applicants with demonstrated commitment to excellence in k-12 teaching in urban schools and to the pursuit of social justice, equity, and inclusion. A master’s degree or doctorate in education or a related field and prior experience working with in k-12 schools are required. Experience teaching in urban k-12 schools and in higher education are valued.
