Job Description Summary
The Wharton School's 20+ research centers and initiatives serve as a hub for exchange and study where faculty, students, and members of the business community address pressing global business challenges. Their work generates courses, academic programs, community outreach, working papers, published research, and partnerships among academics, industry, and government.
The Senior Communications Specialist will work with faculty leadership, staff and Wharton MarComm to communicate the overall strategic mission of Wharton's finance-focused research centers and initiatives. The Senior Communications Specialist will execute a plan to create and distribute digestible content from faculty research and student programming targeted at the business community, students, and alumni. This position will build relationships with faculty and staff working in finance research centers and partner with them to guide projects from concept to delivery with oversight and guidance from the Managing Director. This individual must be able to adjust to a fast-paced, high performing professional environment, and be comfortable working across multiple platforms, including WordPress, Adobe suite, Microsoft Office suite, email marketing platform, and a social media management system.
Job Description
- Oversee communications and marketing efforts for 5+ finance-focused research centers and initiatives for various audiences, including industry, students, alumni, business professionals, and the general public. Create digital content assets such as stories, blogs, graphics, web content, landing pages, social media, email, video, print, and other materials. Work closely with Wharton Media Relations to disseminate research to journalists.
- With guidance from leadership, implement a comprehensive content strategy and editorial and content standards which are based on industry best practices and brand guidelines. Support goal to increase reach and relevance of center activities and academic output.
- Build relationships with finance research center faculty and staff; Create opportunities for collaboration on content creation and amplification.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with marketing and communication staff in Wharton MarComm and research centers across Wharton to share best practices in content creation.
- Serve as a content strategist for new and existing web projects. Collaborate storyboarding and scripting for video projects. Create, develop, and manage web content, social media platforms, and other digital assets.
- Oversee management of all programming, event and conference communication and marketing needs for finance research centers.
- Develop marketing and promotional materials for fundraising and programming efforts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of work experience in communications, journalism, public relations, content development, marketing or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Exceptional writing and proofreading skills. Familiarity with style guides including the AP Stylebook and Chicago Manual of Style.
- Previous experience in creating digestible content for finance topics is a plus.
- Excellent decision-making ability.
- Must maintain confidentiality.
- Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and marketing automation tools (ex. Salesforce, Pardot) is preferred. Must be comfortable learning and adapting to new technologies and processes.
- Ability to think strategically through various channels.
- Experience with social media management, website management, and HTML coding and other CMS tools.
- Self-starter with an ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams and departments, and to be self-guided and solution-oriented in work approaches.
Budgeted salary for this position is $65,000-$75,000.
