Academic Thoracic Pathologist

The Department of Pathology, University of Pittsburgh, Division of Anatomic Pathology of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – Presbyterian Hospital is seeking a pathologist, board certified in Anatomic Pathology, with specialty training and academic interest in Thoracic Pathology. UPMC – Presbyterian is the major teaching hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. It is responsible for 41,000 surgical accessions with a significant mix of medical (native and transplant) and neoplastic pulmonary pathology, and mediastinal pathology; it serves as a local and regional consultation reference laboratory for Western Pennsylvania. In addition to teaching and sign-out responsibilities, the candidate would have ample opportunities for translational projects utilizing the state-of-the-art resources of our molecular pathology, FISH, and other laboratories.

Job Duties:
The candidate would be primarily responsible for sign-out of biopsies and resection specimens along with three other thoracic pathologists, on a bench devoted to pulmonary and mediastinal pathology as part of our Center of Excellence model. Involvement in clinicopathologic studies, collaborations with clinician-scientists, and teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students is essential. Participation in other subspecialty sign-outs may be possible based on the candidate’s interest.

Qualifications:

Must have an M.D. and be board-certified in Anatomic Pathology with specialty training and academic interest in thoracic pathology.

Eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania is required.

A record of and commitment to scholarly activities and publications

Must be able to work in the United States.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh as well as a participant in the UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan
