Faculty Professor - Full-Time

RANK/TITLE: Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor (non-tenure or tenure-stream)

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:

The Department of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking an academic neuropathologist as the Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor (non-tenure or tenure-stream) depending on qualifications to replace a retiring neuropathologist. The successful candidate will be board certified in Anatomic Pathology with subspecialty board certification or eligibility in Neuropathology. The candidate must have a valid Pennsylvania medical license (or qualifications to obtain one at the time of appointment) and must be able to work in the United States. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience.

This position will be based at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Presbyterian Hospital and provide additional telepathology services to several other hospitals within the UPMC system. The Division of Neuropathology service includes the annual examination of over 1600 surgical specimens, over 700 intraoperative consultations, ~150 nerve/muscle biopsies, ~130 ophthalmic specimens and ~400 adult/pediatric/perinatal/forensic autopsy brain examinations. The Division of Neuropathology works closely with the Molecular Pathology Division that provides state-of-the-art next generation sequencing and methylation array studies. The department contains a Division of Experimental Pathology and an associated Ph.D.-granting program (Cellular and Molecular Pathology) in which many faculty members participate. Ample opportunities for collaborative research are available through many of The University of Pittsburgh’s renowned institutes and centers, which include the Hillman Cancer Center, McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Brain Institute and Pittsburgh Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases.

The successful candidate should possess strong diagnostic skills, be capable of participating in the service responsibilities of a busy and state-of-the-art neuropathology service and have a strong commitment to an academic career including resident and neuropathology fellow education and medical student teaching. Established diagnostic expertise, a record of scholarly publications, and experience in basic or translational neuro-oncology research are highly desirable.

JOB DUTIES:

• Sign out surgical, autopsy and neuromuscular neuropathology cases.
• Participate in training of neuropathology fellows and pathology, neurosurgery and neurology residents.
• Participate in teaching of medical students.
• Contribute to the academic mission of the division, primarily in the field of neuro-oncology.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• M.D degree or equivalency: board-eligible/board certified Pathologist.

• Residency training in Anatomic Pathology.

• Experience and training in neuropathology with Board eligibility

• Experience and training in biomedical research with a doctoral degree desirable.
