Pending budgetary approval, The Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh seeks candidates for two positions as Teaching Assistant Professors specializing in History and/or Philosophy of Medicine beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year. Teaching Assistant Professors are eligible for renewal and promotion (for more information please see https://www.as.pitt.edu/faculty/governance/criteria-promotion-appointment-evaluation-and-reappointment-appointment-stream).

Required Qualifications: (1) A Ph.D. in History and Philosophy of Science, Philosophy, or a closely related field expected by the proposed start date, (2) interest in integrating history and philosophy of science as well as knowledge of the science or sciences relevant to their teaching, and (3) evidence of exemplary teaching.

Responsibilities: Undergraduate teaching in support of the HPS major and the Certificate in the Conceptual Foundations of Medicine (3 courses per semester, including HPS 0613: Morality and Medicine and HPS 0612: Mind and Medicine. Undergraduate courses are capped at 35 students each.) Regular departmental duties. There are opportunities for departmental service that may be offset by a reduced teaching load.
