Job Summary

| This is a clinical position, working alongside the surgeons, providers, and all other members of the Pediatric Orthopedic team as patients are seen in a clinical setting. This position is primarily at our at our Salt Lake and Riverton location but you may be asked to travel to our other locations for coverage/training at anytime.

Responsibilities

Essential Function
  • Room patients and obtain all pertinent medical history from patient/parents.
  • Apply custom casts as well as removal of cast.
  • Removal of surgical pins, sutures and other post-operative dressings in clinic.
  • Scribe clinic notes in EMR with minimal mistakes.
  • Fit and instruct patient how to use braces, boots, crutches, splints and any other DME.
  • Collect any pertinent medication information from EMR for future clinics.
  • Order imaging exams. Back office working including, answer patients calls, preparing charts, patient paperwork, making post op calls, scheduling and coordinating patient appointments, obtain prior authorization, check in and out patients. Charting in iCentra and EPIC.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
  • Demonstrated phlebotomy skills.
  • Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the specific clinic's specialty skills within six weeks of hire. *Specialty skills may not be performed until after the new hire completed basic competency testing.
  • Incumbents face exposure to potentially dangerous contaminated bodily fluids, blood, used needles and other contaminants as part of the daily hazards of the job.
  • Ability to withstand the physical demand of being on your feet for long periods of time, of moving and lifting patients and of reaching for and handling equipment.
Minimum Qualifications

Required
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
One of the following
  • Current Advanced EMT certification with the State of Utah.
  • Current certification to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Utah.
  • Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through AAMA
  • Currently credentialed in ABR-OE (Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry) through AAMA.
  • Current certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through AMT
  • Current certification as a National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through NCCT.
  • Current Clinical Medical Assistant Certification through NHA.
  • Current certification as a NRCMA – Medical Assistant through the National Association for Health Professionals.
  • Three years of experience as a Medical Assistant or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
