The mission of the Department of Occupational Therapy at VCU is to advance occupation-focused scholarship and practice through integrated education, research, and service. This happens through:

Chief Purpose of this position

Scholarship, teaching, and service in occupational therapy.

The Department of Occupational Therapy in the College of Health Professions is seeking a colleague to lead and collaborate in research and teaching, to participate in service to the department and university, and to contribute to leadership in the profession.

Our department is currently seeking tenure (research) line candidates. Candidates considered for a junior tenure line are expected to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding that complement and expand existing expertise in the department. Candidates considered for a senior tenure line are expected to have a well-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise in the department. Applicants must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment and a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Position Responsibilities
  • Research: Faculty member will engage in research to enhance knowledge in occupational therapy, including designing and conducting research studies, acquisition of grant funding, overseeing of research projects, and disseminating findings.
  • Teaching: Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the OTD and/or PhD program consistent with areas of knowledge and skill and department need. Teaching responsibilities also include student advisement and research and/or capstone mentorship.
  • Service: Faculty member will serve on the departmental, college, and/or university committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g., reviewer, conference organizer.
Required Qualifications
  • Earned research doctorate (PhD, ScD)
  • If an OT applicant, licensure or eligibility for licensure as an occupational therapist in Virginia
  • Junior faculty members will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding that complement and expand existing expertise in the department
  • Senior faculty members will be required to have a well-developed scholarly/research portfolio
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse environment for faculty, staff, and students and a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

  • Teaching experience at the graduate level
  • Record of external funding
