The Health Law and Policy Fellow will work in coordination with the Medical-Legal Partnership Clinic and Health Law and Policy Program to design and execute policy advocacy to address systemic barriers to health and health disparities experienced by clinic clients and others throughout North Carolina.

Applicants should have experience or interest in health policy, social determinants of health, and/or healthcare regulation.
Accountabilities:
This position reports to the Faculty Director of the Medical-Legal Partnership Clinic and works closely with the Faculty Director for the Health Law and Policy Program. The Fellow may have some oversight of student work but does not manage budgets. They will interact with Law School Faculty, Staff, and Students as well as external stakeholders.

Essential Functions:
Research
- Conduct legal and public policy research under faculty direction.
- Draft and revise memos, issue briefs, brochures, and other documents.
- Promote findings of the Fellow's work in the health law and policy community through writing, community education, and training.
- Collaborate with community and cross-campus partners.
- Attend public events and sometimes make presentations.
- Liaise with other organizations working on health law and policy to identify and leverage synergies.
- Coordinate activities with, and sometimes oversees, MLP Clinic students and/or research assistants.
- Coordinate or conduct administrative aspects of the program, including planning, publicity, event organization, etc.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- JD or higher from an ABA accredited law school.
- 2-3 years of experience in legal practice.
- Skill in prioritizing workflow and managing resources.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in technical and computer skills including MS Office; Word, Excel, database management, the Internet and other relevant software.
- Ability to research, assemble, and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports.
- Ability to manage and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and demonstrate sound judgment and discretion.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Detail oriented in coordinating activities and completing assignments.
